Building A Second Body: Practicing with Gurdjieff in a Time-Between-Worlds

Amidst deteriorating political and social conditions, what does it mean for there to be a resurgence of Gurdjieff’s work? Who is practicing within this resurgence, perhaps without even knowing it? And how can we learn to cultivate the “second body” that (as Gurdjieff taught) allows us become a bridge between heaven and earth?
Led by spiritual teacher, philosopher, and cultural activist Layman Pascal, this intensive seminar is for people who want to get better at being generators of Dharma. It is for metamodern philosophers, we-space practitioners, spiritual innovators, and shamanoids of all kinds.
In his 2023 book, Gurdjieff for a Time-Between-Worlds, Layman presents Gurdjieff as a shamanic “grandfather of metamodern spirituality” with a keen ability to speak to future generations. In these two days of practice, study, and discussion, we will consider the possibility that he was speaking to us. The workshop will include:
stories, lore, and context that help us understand Gurdjieff’s contribution
lots of embodied practice
looking for the underlying principles that can help us create our own psycho-technologies
practicing a Gurdjieffian approach to personal writing and storytelling
and many more things we cannot predict.
Gurdjieff viewed socio-political disasters as inevitable results of the shallowness of the social surface. An existential avant-garde is necessary in order to renormalize society and bring humans into a constructive agreement with the biosphere. We hope you will apply to join us in Washington, D.C, as we engage esoteric practice as deep activism.
To register: Attendance is by application; apply here.
Cost: If approved to attend, each participant will need to pay $158.33 to hold their place. This cost does not include any compensation for teachers or hosts. An additional round of giving will be invited at the end of the workshop.
